Generator: The basics

A generator converts mechanical energy obtained from an external source into electrical energy as the output. The size of the engine is directly proportional to the amount of power the generator can supply. It’s also directly related to the cost.

A note: This is not generally a DIY project, as installation includes electrical wiring, plumbing and natural gas components.

Generac generators: Powered by natural gas

Generators can run for as long as there is a fuel supply to the generator—generally 24 hours, when they will require fuel, an oil check, and other maintenance.
